About Arthaus

Art Educator Meg Foster taught art in Chesterfield County Public Schools for over 13 years. After a brief time away with her children, Meg started ArtHaus Kids as way to return part time to her passion of teaching art to young children. The company name came from the Bauhaus art movement of the 1920’s and 30’s. The infamous school was founded by several well known artists including Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, and architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (known to have coined the phrase, "Less is more"). Who could ask for better inspiration? The German word "haus" translates as "warm home" and is very metophoric in how we view ArtHaus. It is our goal to provide a warm and caring environment where every student feels secure and celebrated as a developing artist.

Although ArtHaus began with primarily children's classes, the new studio has allowed for the opportunity to offer teen and adult classes as well.  We are excited to add new members to our ArtHaus’ faculty. Robert Caldwell, a nationally renowned artist, specializing in wildlife and architectural oil painting, will be teaching teen and adult drawing and painting classes. Karen Pellis, with a BFA from The Rhode Island School of Design, specializes in both ceramics and painting. Karen will head up the children, teen and adult ceramics studio classes.

We are continually updating our classes with new artists and mediums. We hope that you will be a frequent visitor to see these changes unfold. Join our Facebook page to receive our lastest updates and specials. Please drop us a line and feel free to share any thoughts, suggestions or questions.

Our Goals

  • To provide a caring and stimulating learning environment for developing artists.
  • To present opportunities for those interested in connecting with the community in a positive and powerful way.
  • To encourage our students to use art as a means of self-discovery, problem solving and enjoyment.
  • To have children look at the world around them with environmental awareness by recycling, recreating and reusing nontraditional art materials.
  • To provide and maintain excellent customer service.
  • To introduce and use only high quality materials.
  • To celebrate and encourage the artist within every member of ArtHaus.
